[MOD NOTE] Use of LJ-SPOILER tag
SW - Han Shot 1st (miggy)

I've been hoping it would just happen organically, but since it's not...

Official request, here, for people to try to start making more use of the LJ-SPOILER tag on any Comments that contain class or planet story spoilers. Yes, the game has been out for a year, but people are at varying levels of progression and activity.

I, for one, like to use [Track This] on posts that come in that I'm interested in seeing the responses to (which means: almost all of them). Doing so, I'm seeing comment updates independent of context, which means I don't know if it's to a thread I'm interested in or one that people have started sharing spoilers about. Spoilers are, therefore, crossing my attention quite frequently, without cuts, and I'm not liking it.

Other people may be doing the same.

(And no, 'comments may contain spoilers' is not enough. Because there may be some classes someone might want to participate in, and others they may not, or spoilers for one class might creep into another, as has happened frequently in the past couple of weeks.)

Please just be courteous about what gets shared above a LJ-SPOILER. Pretend this you're on a starting planet and this is Gen Chat--would you be talking unfiltered about what happens on Corellia there? (I hope not.)

TIA. :)

Thank you! Wasn't even going to step foot into the previous thread, as I've only finished three storylines, and I'd like to keep from being spoiled on the rest. But I'd also like to join in on conversation about the ones I have finished. ;)

Yeah. I was seriously tempted to delete the post and restart it with individual comment threads for each class to help with it, but I felt that might be a bit too draconic, especially since two people had started discussing it extensively.

Instead…I’m just not participating because the one class I don’t want to be spoiled on was referenced at the top of the very first comment, meaning every comment is now suspect. ;.;

Eh, I might delete and start by class.

Among other things, people who haven't finished one aren't going to be all that interested in it anyway. Plus, the LJ spoiler tags are kind of annoying. It's one thing if it's a minor point here and there, but to have huge discussions via them is annoying. (Esp. as a tag might cover by say, agent, which you want to avoid, and jedi knight, which you might be very interested in.)

The problem isn't for the people who haven't finished one--it's those who have finished some but not all.

I saw 'Agent' at the top of your comment and had to stop and therefore read /nothing/ because that's what I'm trying to avoid.

And if that's the case? Then it's that person's decision to make, but I personally hate starting to read something about the Jedi Knight (which I don't mind spoilers for) and then stumbling on major spoilers for the Agent (which I do). If it's up front that there are spoilers for both behind a cut, then it's on the reader to decide whether they want to take the risk or not.

But it is so easy to accidentally have your eyes fall on something you didn't actually want to read when it's in plain, uncut text. I've gotten more Agent spoilers than I've really cared to because of that.

Well, except that unless you block them off for each class individually, that is going to be an issue. (Or you figure that people who've finished, say, 5 but not 8, are fine being spoiled for the last three.) I think blocking them off individually makes more sense, seeing as a lot of the spoilers would include some for all classes, anyway.

And to be fair, only the comments *had* spoilers, and the top of the thread was marked with "there will be spoilers in the comments". So to me, the choice to read the comments was one someone chose to make.

With that said, I prefer the idea of multiple threads, anyway, so you can discuss, say, what you think would be a good Jedi Knight follow up in one thread, then a good BH follow up in another. (Mostly because I care about the first, but not the second, so wouldn't even bother clicking on the BH thread. Plus, of course, this would spare people who didn't want to read BH spoilers from accidentally finding them.)

(Plus, although there were some spoilers, no super major ones so far. And the conversation didn't get all that involved, while I suspect it might take off again with new posts.)

I'm prettyyyy sure that while LJSpoilers work on LJ, they don't work via the email notifications. I mod another comm, and we use spoiler tags as well, but the emails still have all the info in there x_x unless this has changed within the last month

They don’t work in email, but I, for example, get all my notifications in the LJ Inbox and it does work there.

ahhh cool :) I only noted that since it sounded like you get it in email and I didn't want you to get spoiled again :)

Yeah, if it’s purely email notifications…not anything anyone can control, but since LJ-SPOILER is… :)
